Fisheries (Amendment) Regulations, no. 139 of 2026.

These Regulations, made under provisions of article 6 of the Fisheries Law, amend the Fisheries Regulations 1990. Amendments concern: adding, in the appropriate alphabetical order, the following new terms and their definitions: harassment, as actions likely to disturb a protected species, affecting its normal behaviour, including its migration, respiration, reproduction, rest, movement or feeding; feeding; replacing the word “dolphin” with the phrase “cetaceans"; destruction and/or attempted destruction of any nest and/or egg of a sea turtle. Further matters covered by these Regulations include: introduction of protected areas for sea turtle nesting beaches; prohibition for any person to place a bed, umbrella, caravan, tent or other similar structure on any part of the beaches indicated as protected area; restriction on the passage and anchoring of motorised vessels, excluding vessels of holders of a professional small-scale coastal fishing license; prohibition for any person to enter either by land or by sea into the specified sea caves, included within the Marine Protected Areas, with exemptions for purposes of scientific research, cleaning and improvement of the environmental condition of the habitat; measures for limiting dumping of any waste into the sea either from land or from any other means, including a vessel.
