Improvement of animal breeds (Procedure and criteria for the import of animals and genetic material from third countries) Regulations 2001 (P.I. No. 191/2001).

The provisions of this Act define the terms and conditions for imports of animals (sheep, cattle and pigs) and genetic material from third countries. Animals or genetic material imported from third countries, which are found not complying with the terms and conditions under which a preliminary approval to import has been issued, will be subject to immediate seizure or destruction or slaughter or review of the approval, as decided by the competent authority, so as to exclude the use of their reproduction in the territory of the Republic.
