Abstract
This Law, consisting of 40 articles, applies to the categories of agricultural products and foodstuffs specified in the European Regulation (EC) No. 510/2006 for the protection of geographical indications and designations of origin of agricultural products and foodstuffs. The Law defines powers and obligations of the Competent Authority, including: examination of proposed registrations of agricultural products or foodstuffs, informing citizens regarding the proposed registrations of agricultural products or food. Matters covered by the Law concern: establishment of advisory committee; definition of criteria for the application of a registration; right to appeal agains the application for registration of the appellation of origin or geographical indication and related procedure; maintenance of a register of names with temporary protection; objections to the Commission of the European Communities; approval of the use of a protected designation of origin or geographical indication and right to produce products with geographical indications; appointment of inspectors and definition of their duties and powers, including controls on packaging, storage and transport of food and agriculture products; criminal provisions; power to make Regulations.
