Abstract
This Law, implementing provisions of the Directive 2009/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, applies to marine incidents and accidents occurring within the territorial sea or internal waters of the Republic, or in which a Cypriot ship is involved, regardless of the place where the marine accidents occur, or concerning other essential interests of the Republic. The Law concerns the following matters: establishment of marine accidents and incidents investigation committee and specification of its functions and mission; service of the marine accidents and incidents investigation committee; investigation procedure; obligation to notify a marine accident or incident; permanent cooperation with the European Commission and other Member States; administrative fines. The Law provides the following definitions for a better comprehension of its content: coastal zone management; investigation; internal waters of the Republic; Cyprus ship; nautical accidents and incidents.
