Protocol to the 1979 Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution on Heavy Metals (Ratification) Law, 2004 (Law No. 38(ΙΙΙ)/2004).

With the purpose of aligning the Cypriot legislative frame with the European Council Decision No. 2001/379/EC of 4 April 2001 on the approval, on behalf of the European Community, of the Protocol to the 1979 Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution on Heavy Metals, the present Law ratifies herewith the above mentioned Protocol which was singed on 24 June 1998 in Aarhus, Denmark. The Protocol’s objective is to control emissions of heavy metals caused by anthropogenic activities that are subject to long-range transboundary atmospheric transport and are likely to have significant adverse effects on human health or the environment. The competent authority for the implementation of the Protocol is the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of the Republic of Cyprus.
