Recreational Navigation in the Republic and Other Related Matters, Law no. 4 (I) of 2026.

This Law, divided into eleven parts, applies to Cypriot vessels and foreign vessels which move, dock or anchor or usually remain within the territory of the Republic for a total period exceeding ninety days within a period of three hundred and sixty-five days. The Law specifies measures and provisions for recreational navigation. The Law defines the following relevant terms: foreign vessel; personal watercraft; harmonised standard; marine sports and entertainment business; sailing vessel; nautical accident; marine incident; fee; territorial sea. The Law covers the following matters: restrictions on use, movement and sail of a vessel without registration and pilot's licence; boat inspection and marine permits; issuance of boat operator's license and related matters, including subjects of nautical schools' programmes; limited use of vessels; operation of water sports and entertainment companies; obligations of businesses and companies; pleasure boat chartering companies and relating obligations; liabilities of charter companies, including: liability for damage that may be suffered by passengers or third parties and liability for marine pollution; technical provisions and construction techniques; navigation and safety equipment; noise pollution from vessels; measures for ensuring protection of the environment, including prohibition of discharging any liquid or solid material into the sea; restriction on boat movement; boat operator obligations; insurance policy concerning liability towards a third party; emergency situation and search and rescue operations; criminal offences committed in violation of the provisions of the Law; investigations of maritime accidents and ship incidents; supervision and compliance mechanism; power to issue Regulations.
