Abstract
These Regulations, issued by the Council of Ministers pursuant to the provisions of sections 6 and 14 of the Seeds Laws of 1998, provide for further harmonisation of Cyprus Legislation with the European Council Directive 70/457/EEC on the common catalogue of varieties of agricultural plant species, and its further amendments. The Regulations concern: registration of seed and plant species and related fees; certification; varieties of maize and grain; official control and inspection of the Agricultural Research Institute; conditions under which the examination of cultivation is not required; registration of genetically modified varieties and appropriate measures to avoid adverse effects on human health and the environment; material derived from genetically modified variety used as a food ingredient; safeguarding plant genetic resources; criteria for defining characteristics of varieties.
