Abstract
These Regulations, issued by the Council of Ministers pursuant to the provisions of sections 6 and 14 of the Seeds Laws of 1998, provide for further harmonisation of Cyprus Legislation with the European Council Directive 70/458/EEC on the marketing of horticultural seeds, and its further amendments. The Regulations concern: registration of seed and plant species intended for production of vegetables; vegetables; seed packaging and labelling; certification; standards of seed production; registration of genetically modified varieties and appropriate measures to avoid adverse effects on human health and the environment; material derived from genetically modified variety used as a food ingredient; protection of consumers; safeguarding plant genetic resources; variety of seeds; application for registration of varieties and production of vegetables for industrial use; Ministerial controls and inspection; prohibition of the market of seeds in case of risk of spread of harmful organisms, or other risks to human health and the environment; conditions to use seeds for research and scientific purposes; obligations of seed production companies.
