Abstract
The present Regulations are issued under articles 9 and 11 of the Plant Propagation Material (Production and Marketing) Laws 1991-2002. The Regulations provide for the enforcement and execution of the provisions of Council Directive 2002/56/EC, as amended by Council Directive 2003/61/EC, regarding the marketing of seed potatoes. The provisions of these Regulations shall apply to the production with a view to marketing of seed potatoes. It shall not apply to seed potatoes shown to be intended for export to third countries. According to section 4, seed potatoes may not be placed on the market unless they have been officially certified as "basic seed potatoes" or "certified seed potatoes" and unless they satisfy the minimum conditions laid down in Annexes I and II attached herewith. The Regulations also provide for official examination of seed potatoes, labelling and marking requirements and establish quality standards.
