The Waste (Amendment) Law, no. 48/I of 2022.

This Law, in order to implement the Directive (EU) 2019/904 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment, and to amend the Waste Act, no. 185 of 2011 in its last amended version, provides for the definition of new terms, and for the insertion of a new chapter concerning the reduction of environmental impact of plastic products, which covers the following matters: fishing activities, fishing gear, waste fishing gear, biodegradable plastic, harmonised standards, port reception facility and applicable provisions on waste from fishing vessel, plastic material, single-use plastic products, beverage bottles of recycled material, packaging for sale, waste disposal, costs of the awareness measures, separate collection for recycling, negative impacts on the marine environment resulting from the inappropriate disposal of fishing gear containing plastic. Further amendments concern roles and duties of inspectors and penalties.
