Abstract
This Regulation aims to regulate consumer goods/articles for everyday use, in particular those which may come into contact with food, cosmetics or otherwise be used by humans. It protects consumer health and food safety by preventing harmful substances from migrating from containers/packaging into food and ensures that materials/objects that touch food or are used by people comply with safety, labeling, and hygiene standards. It provides a clear regulatory framework for manufacturers, importers, retailers, contributing to compliance with EU‑law and consumer‑protection while it implements several European directives harmonizing rules on materials/objects intended to come into contact with food. The main provisions of the Regulation provides for prohibited substances, permitted substances and restrictions, prohibited processes, transfer to food, labelling and warning duties, import rules and sanctions and penalties. According to the latest changes in 2024 businesses manufacturing, treating or placing food‑contact materials on the market must notify their activity to the responsible authority before starting. The text consists of 17 Articles and contains 14 Appendixes mainly regarding List Prohibited and Authorized Substances, Define Migration Limits and Requirements, and Specify Requirements for Specific Materials.
