Abstract
In the Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern forests characterise the landscape and belong to the natural cultural heritage of the country. Forests are the unrenounceable and indispensable living basis of human beings, plants and animals. With a view to achieve a sustainable development, forests have to be conserved and increased because of their economic utility, their importance for the environment, in particular as living space for wild living animals and wild growing plants, the climate, water resources, pollution of the air, fertility of the soil, the image of the landscape, the agriculture on the whole and their infrastructures and finally, because of their importance for recreational purposes of the public. The text consists of 55 articles divided into 10 Parts as follows: General provisions (I); Forestry planning, safeguarding the functions of the forest (II); Conservation, management, protection and increase of forests (III); Behaviour in forests (IV); Organization and tasks of the regional forestry services (V); Special provisions for public and private forests (VI); Promotion of forestries, compensation payments (VII); Forest service and surveillance and forest protection (VIII); Penalties (IX); Final provisions (X).
