Abstract
The present Regulation settles the markings and lights to display by vessels and convoys, the rules for meeting, crossing, overtaking and berthing of vessels as well as the waterway signs, the allowed dimensions of vessels and convoys and the water protection against pollution to keep by navigation. The observance of the rules by navigation is supervised by the national water polices of the Rhine riparian states. The text consists of 15 chapters as follows: General provisions (1); Marking and scales of vehicles; ship calibration (2); Identification of vehicles (3); Audible signals of ships; radiotelephony, information and navigation devices (4); Navigation signs and names of waterways (5); Driving rules (6); Rules for berthing (7); Additional provisions (8); Special rules for navigating and berthing (9); Limitation of navigation in high waters (10); Protection of waters and disposal of ship waste (11); These 11 chapters are divided in 2 Parts as follows: Provisions to be applied to the whole Rhine (I); Special provisions for the environment (II). Eleven Annexes are enclosed.
