Abstract
An Ordinance implementing the Directive No. 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the EC of 27 January 1997 on New Foodstuffs and New Ingredients for Foodstuffs. According to article 1, the competent authority to carry out the first inspection of new foodstuffs and ingredients are both the Robert Koch Institute and the Federal Institute for Consumer Protection and Veterinary Medicine. Requests for authorization of new foodstuffs and ingredients must be addressed to the said authorities. Part 2 deals with products made up of genetically manipulated soya beans and/or maize and Part 3 concerns marking of products made without genetically manipulated products. The Ordinance consists of 9 articles divided into 4 Parts.
