Elderly Act (Act No. 1651 of 2024).

This Act establishes a general framework for elderly care in Denmark, including municipal responsibilities for prevention, holistic care, support for daily living, free choice of care providers, supervision, complaints, payment and elderly councils. In relation to food security, it requires municipalities to offer at least one daily delivered main meal to eligible older persons living at home who are unable to cook due to reduced functional capacity, and to provide full meal arrangements for persons living in care homes, care housing and free-care housing. The Act aims to support older persons’ self-determination, independence and well-being, while ensuring access to necessary care and support in daily life.
