Order No. 1272 on water quality and supervision of water-supply installations.

This Order sets Danish rules on drinking-water quality and supervision of water-supply installations, including quality requirements, control measurements, monitoring of abstracted water quantities, public information duties and supervision of water-supply systems from the supply installation to the consumer’s tap. It defines drinking water broadly, including water for household use and food businesses, and requires water supplies to ensure that drinking water is wholesome, clean and free from microorganisms, parasites and harmful substances. The Order regulates permitted raw-water sources, use of rainwater, treatment chemicals and filter media, risk assessment of consumers’ distribution networks, especially risks from lead, supervision by municipal authorities, control programmes, sampling and accredited laboratory analysis, simplified controls for small supplies, emergency supplies, measures where quality standards are exceeded, dispensations from certain parameter values, registration of abstracted water quantities, groundwater-level measurements, assessment of leakage levels, technical inspections, reporting to the Jupiter database and the European Commission, and public access to information. It implements parts of Directive (EU) 2020/2184 on drinking-water quality.
