Order No. 1402 on guarantees of origin for electricity, gas, district heating and district cooling from renewable energy sources.

This Order sets out the Danish rules on guarantees of origin for energy produced from renewable sources, covering electricity, gas, district heating and district cooling, including renewable gaseous fuels such as hydrogen. It defines a guarantee of origin as an electronic document used to prove to final customers that a given amount or share of energy comes from renewable energy sources. The Order assigns responsibility for issuing, transferring, cancelling and supervising guarantees of origin: Energinet handles electricity and gas, while the Danish Energy Agency handles district heating, district cooling and certain hydrogen cases. It also regulates registration and application procedures, measurement and documentation requirements, digital systems, transfer and cancellation rules, recognition of foreign guarantees of origin, supervision, fees, appeals and penalties. The Order allows previously issued guarantees to remain usable within the specified time limits.
