Abstract
This Regulation requires the mandatory addition of iodine to household salt and salt used in bread and ordinary baked goods produced and sold in Denmark. It requires salt to contain 13 mg of iodine per kg and to be clearly labeled as iodized. Products from other EU or EEA countries may be sold in Denmark regardless of iodization, while imports from outside these areas are allowed only if iodized or if iodization is mandatory in the producing country. The regulation specifies approved iodine sources, labeling rules for both packaged and unpackaged goods, and annual analytical testing of iodine content by accredited laboratories. Noncompliance, such as failure to iodize or incorrect labeling, is punishable by fines, and companies may be held legally responsible. Products manufactured and labeled under previous rules before 31 March 2001 may continue to be sold until existing stocks are exhausted.
