Abstract
This Regulation, based on the provisions of subsections 4 and 5 of section 62 of the Veterinary Act, defines operational guidelines for the prevention and control of the spread of salmonellosis in farm animals, wild animals, and birds, in order to protect human health, and ensure safety handling of the products originating from suspected and infected animals. The Regulation concerns: description of Salmonella pathogens and of the most important Salmonella serotypes, from the point of view of human health safety. Chapter 2 concerns Salmonella monitoring programme; the role of the Agriculture and Food Board in compliance with European Legislation; taking, labelling, and analysing of samples; examination of breeding and pedigree birds; specific provisions concerning birds of the poultry flock kept for the purpose of egg production and meat production; examination of pigs herd; examination of cattle and other livestock animals; examination of animal products; examination of animal feed and fodder.
Chapter 3 concerns measures in cases of suspicion of salmonellosis; diagnosis, notification and record keeping; specific provisions concerning goat, sheep and equine animals; countermeasures and restrictions to be established by the Agriculture and Food Board in case of salmonellosis diagnosis; restrictions applicable in Salmonella-positive pig and cattle herds, including prohibitions to use raw milk from infected animals as food or feed; slaughter and further handling of salmonella-positive pig and cattle animals in the slaughterhouse; general restrictions applicable in Salmonella-positive poultry; additional restrictions applicable in Salmonella-positive production herd, and breeding flocks; measures applicable to the killing and further handling of Salmonella-positive poultry; further handling of eggs from salmonella-positive poultry; measures to be applied in case of determination in a slaughterhouse, or in other premises where animal products are handled for food.
