Abstract
This Decree provides for the executive regulations of the Ministerial Decree No. 48 of 1982 on the protection of the Nile river and water channels from pollution. It is composed of eight parts. Part 1 consists of some definitions , Part 2 provides for the licensing of dumping treated effluent waste in water channels. Article 3 states that it is prohibited to store, or dump toxic chemicals in water channels unless it is done in authorized areas. According to article 4, liquid waste should not contain any chemical pesticides or radioactive materials that can be harmful to human beings, animals, fish , birds or even affect the quality of potable water . Part 3 sets forth the monitoring of the applicability of licenses’ requirements and conditions. Part 4 is concerned with floating river units. Part 5 is about sampling and analysis . Part 6 provides for the requirements, standards, and specifications for effluent dumping into water channels. Part 7 addresses penalties to violations to the provisions of this Decree and the fees for those violations. Part 8 gives General final provisions.
