Abstract
The Agreement aims to the cooperation between the two Contracting Parties in the field of nuclear safety for peaceful purposes only and taking into account the importance of environmental protection. The Agreement rests on the principle of mutual benefit. Cooperation shall cover the following areas: (a) nuclear reactor safety research; (b) radiation protection; (c) nuclear waste management; (d) decommissioning, decontamination and dismantling of nuclear installations; (e) research and development on safeguards of nuclear material; and (f) prevention of illicit trafficking of nuclear material. Cooperation shall involve among others exchange of technical information and balanced participation in joint studies and activities. A Coordinating Committee is established by article 8 to supervise the implementation of this Agreement.
