Abstract
The watch list includes substances that might pose serious risks to the aquatic environment across the EU, but for which there isn’t enough monitoring data to confirm the actual danger. Substances that are highly toxic, widely used in different EU countries, and released into water—yet rarely monitored—should be prioritized. When choosing these substances, the criteria listed in Article 8b(1)(a) to (e) of Directive 2008/105/EC should be considered, with special attention to newly emerging pollutants. Annex to this Decision sets out the watch list of substances for Union-wide monitoring referred to in Article 8b of Directive 2008/105/EC.
