Commission Recommendation 2004/787/EC on technical guidance for sampling and detection of genetically modified organisms and material produced from genetically modified organisms as or in products in the context of Regulation (EC) No. 1830/2003.

The present Recommendation lays down technical guidance with a view to facilitating a coordinated approach for the inspections, and particularly sample checks, to be carried out pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 1830/2003, which sets out the framework for the traceability of products consisting of or containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and food and feed produced from GMOs. The sampling and detection should be carried out using sound scientific and statistical protocols in order to achieve an appropriate level of confidence for detection of GMOs or material produced from GMOs.
