Abstract
The Regulation is divided into the following Chapters: Definitions and Forms (I); Period of issue, validity and use of documents (II); Specimens born and bred in captivity and to artificially propagated specimens (III); Personal and household effects (IV); Exemptions (V); Marking specimens (VI); Reports and information (VII); Final provisions (VIII).
The Regulation establishes specific provisions for the completion of the different documents required (inter alia, application forms, certificates, permits, notifications, etc.). Further provisions specify the conditions under which derogation to the general rules governing the introduction into, and the export from the Community of species of wild fauna and flora may be allowed according to article 7 of Regulation (EC) No. 338/97. Chapter VI establishes the methods that may be allowed for the marking of animals, as they do not affect the well-being and natural behaviour of the specimens concerned. Chapter VII makes provision for the collection of data and dissemination of information within the Community. The Regulation is followed by eight Annexes containing, inter alia, model forms of the documents required and listing (a) the codes to be used for the description of the specimens, (b) the source of specimens, (c) standard references for nomenclature.
