Abstract
In the light of the fact that it has been assessed that the stock of cod inhabiting the North Sea and the stock of cod inhabiting waters to the west of Scotland are at serious risk of collapse, this Regulation establishes technical measures intended for the recovery of the stocks in such areas. The Regulation shall apply to fishing vessels operating within Community waters of ICES Sub-areas IV and VI and ICES Divisions IIa and Vb (art. 1, par. 1). It shall not apply to fishing vessels operating within the part of ICES Sub-area VI enclosed by straight lines joining the geographical coordinates referred to in article 1(2). Article 4 fixes the minimum percentage of which shall consist the catch of Norway lobsters, cod and other marine fishes taken with the nets referred therein. Article 5 specifies the demersal towed nets which may not be deployed when fishing. Furthermore, it shall be prohibited to use any beam trawl of mesh size range 32 to 119 mm within the geographical areas defined in article 6.
