Abstract
This Regulation lays down specific measures on agriculture in order to remedy the difficulties caused by the remoteness, insularity, distant location, small surface area, terrain, difficult climate and dependence of the outermost regions of the European Union. The outermost regions are those referred to in article 299(2) of the Treaty establishing the European Community, namely the French overseas departments, the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands. The Regulation includes measures to assist local agricultural products, Community aid from the Structural Funds and particular derogations to the State aid regime.
