Abstract
This Regulation lays down a number of amendments and addenda to Regulation (EEC) No. 1210/90 under which the European Environment Agency and the European environment information and observation network have been established. As a result, further tasks are added to the Agency. In addition to the functions already entrusted by Regulation 1210/90/EEC, the Agency shall (i) assist the monitoring of environmental measures through appropriate support for reporting requirements, (ii) advise individual Member States on the development, establishment and expansion of their systems for the monitoring of environmental measures, (iii) develop further and maintain a reference centre of information on the environment, and (iv) support the Commission in the process of exchange of information on the development of Environmental Assessment methodologies and best practice. The Agency may also cooperate in the exchange of information with other bodies. The issue connected with sustainable development is added to the areas of activity of the Agency. Further amendments regard the elements of the observation network and the structure of the Agency.
