Abstract
This Regulation provides for the European Environment Agency and setting up of a European Environment Information and Observation Network to ensure environmental protection and improvement in accordance with the Treaty. The Agency and the European Environment Information and Observation Network shall provide objective, reliable and comparable information and the necessary technical and scientific support to the Community and the Member States for the protection of environment. The priorities of the European Environment Agency are determined in Article 3, as (I) air quality and atmospheric emissions; (II) water quality, pollutants and water resources; (III) the state of the soil, of the fauna and flora, and of biotopes; (IV) land use and natural resources; (V) waste management; (VI) noise emissions; (VII) chemical substances which are hazardous for the environment; and (VIII) coastal and marine protection.
