Abstract
This Protocol establishes the fishing opportunities granted to European Union vessels pursuant to Article 5 of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Community and the Republic of Cape Verde. Vessels flying the flag of a Member State of the European Union may engage in fishing activities in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cape Verde only if they are in possession of a valid fishing licence issued by Cape Verde under this Protocol. Moreover the Protocol lays down details on the financial contribution and related methods pf payment. These fishing opportunities shall apply for a period of four years from the date of provisional application of the Protocol.
The Annex to the Protocol lays down conditions for the pursuit of fishing activities by European Union vessels in the Cape Verdean fishing zone. It consists of the following Chapters: I) General provisions; II) Fishing licences; III) Technical conservation measures; IV) Catch reporting arrangements; V) Landings and transshipments; VI) Checks; VII) Satellite Monitoring System (VMS); VIII) Infringements; IX) Signing-on of seamen; X) Cape Verdean observers; XI) Operator liability.

The European Union and the Republic of Cape Verde signed the Protocol on 23 December 2014. The Protocol accordingly applies provisionally from 23 December 2014 pursuant to article 15 thereof.
