Abstract
The present Regulation encompasses particular amending provisions intended to widen the scope of Regulation (EC) No. 2037/2000. The overall objective is to ensure that progress is made in reducing the quantity of halon for critical uses and thereby speed up recovery of the ozone layer. Further amendments concern exports of halon for critical uses. From 1 January 2004, only halon used for the purposes listed in Annex VII to Regulation (EC) No. 2037/2000 will be allowed to remain installed for firefighting in the European Community.
