Abstract
This Act provides rules for the financing of measures proposed by the recently introduced new Forest Act (1093/96). These measures include: protection of renewable forest resources; protection of biodiversity in the forest ecological system; projects for the conservation of forests; and other measures which support the aims outlined above (sect. 1). Financial support may take the form of a loan at low interest rates or a grant. Projects proposed by private owners of forest land may be financed (sect. 2). Owners who apply for financing shall develop a plan in accordance with section 3. Chapter 2 provides in detail for the financing of measures of reforestation and other measures to protect the stock of renewable resources in forests. Environment grants can be requested under provisions of Chapter 3 for measures to protect the biodiversity. Other measures to protect the forest ecological system may be financed under sections 20 and 21 which together make up Chapter 4. Section 22 specifies certain other measures which may be eligible for financing. The remaining provisions of the Act deal with procedures relative to decisions on financing and payment and supervision of the allocation of financing by the Forestry Centres.
