Abstract
This Act defines the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Finland and the rights and jurisdiction of the Finnish state in the EEZ. It also prescribes that the specified environment and wildlife protection legislation and Finnish criminal law shall apply in the EEZ, defines offences relating to fishing, hunting, mining and the environment in general and provides with respect to enforcement and legal proceedings.
The outer limit of the EEZ shall be defined by Government Decree insofar as not already defined by agreements with confining states. The government may, on application, give its consent to the exploitation of natural resources of the seabed and its subsoil in the EEZ in accordance with this Act and legislation made under it. Offences that shall be prosecuted in Finland in accordance with Finnish legislation include damaging of the environment or other environmental violations, violations concerning permits issued under the Water Act, violation of the Common Fisheries Policy or other fishing offences and offences related to hunting or mining.
