Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry concerning national procedures resulting from Regulation (EC) No. 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients (No. 149 of 2012).

This Decree, made pursuant to section 8§3 of the Food Act of 2006, principally concerns the Finnish Board for Novel Foods. The Board shall review the applications, submitted in Finland, for the placing of novel foods on the market and shall make an initial assessment of the food under Article 4 and 6 of Regulation (EC) No. 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients. At the same time the Board decides whether an additional assessment of the novel food in accordance with Article 7 of the Regulation. When the Board carries out the first assessment, it shall follow the Commission's recommendations in accordance with Article 4.4 of the Regulation.
