Abstract
This Act aims at: securing an ethical and safe use and development of genetic technology and to prevent damage to public health, to health of animals or the environment that may be caused by use of genetically modified organisms. The Act regulates use, production, importation, sale, and other placing on the market of genetically modified organisms and products that contain such organisms.
The Act consists of 46 sections divided into 11 Chapters: Scope, application sphere and definitions of the Act (1); Authorities (2); General responsibility of persons handling GMO’s (3); Implied use of GMO’s (4); Application for research and development tests (5); Placing on the market of products (6); Prohibitions and restrictions (7); Control and supervision (8); Specific provisions (9); Follow-up and application for modification (10); Entry into force and transitional provisions (11).
A register of genetic engineering is established under section 26.
