Abstract
The present Government Decree contains provisions on the functioning of the Finnish Forest Agency. It mandates that, in addition to the representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the representative of the staff, the board of the Finnish Forest Agency shall include representatives of forest owners and the timber processing industry. The operational areas of the forest councils shall be delineated to follow the regional divisions. The forest councils shall be formed in an appropriate manner to promote local cooperation and the operational areas shall also be appropriate for the promotion of forest-based industries. The director manages cooperation with the regional Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, and regional councils, and promotes forest-based industries in collaboration with organizations and bodies that promote and conduct business activities at the national, regional, and regional council levels.
