Abstract
The amendments of provisions of the Regulation redefine "professional fisherman" and define the term "fishing gear" as used in section 6(4) of the Fisheries Act. As a principal rule, a fisherman is deemed to be a professional fisherman if not less than 20 percent of his total income is derived from fisheries activities. Fishing gear used for commercial fishing includes a purse net taller than 1,5 metres, seine or trawl nets, any gear with more than 250 hooks attached per catch unit, and floating nets of over 900 meters length per catch unit.
