Abstract
This Act makes amendments in the principal Act regarding fishing licenses, registration of fishing vessels, and the protection of native customary rights. Section 5 of the principal Act is amended, which now allows fishing licenses to be granted for a period not exceeding 3 years from the day of issuance. New subsections are inserted in Sections 5 and 6 related to the licenses granted or a fishing vessel registered before the commencement of this Act to remain valid until 31 December 2022, unless canceled earlier, and the application for licenses or for registration of a fishing vessel lodged before the commencement of this Act and are yet to be processed, to be processed in accordance with this Act. Section 13 of the Principal Act is amended concerning fishing permit to be granted for a period not exceeding 3 years, subject to the consent of the iTaukei people whose fishing rights may be affected.
