Abstract
This Ordinance shall apply to any town, and may be applied to any township specified by the Governor by notification in the official gazette. Town Councils may declare “sewerage areas” pursuant to section 3 and formulate and carry out a scheme for the disposal of sewerage in the area. The Council may construct and maintain sewerage systems but must serve a notice of intended works upon the Director of Public Works under section 4. Other powers of the Council are defined in sections 5 to 7. The Council may charge sewerage rates under section 8. An owner of any premises may be required to connect to a sewer constructed under this Ordinance if the premises are within a given distance from the sewer. Other duties may be imposed on owners under section 10. A Council may approve drain layers under section 11 and shall control activities of approved drain layers. Other provisions concern approval of connection to sewers, damage to works, powers of Council to make by-laws, application of penalties, etc. (21 sections)
