Type of law
Regulation
Abstract
These Regulations enforce in Great Britain Council regulation (EC) No. 820/97 establishing a system for the identification and registration of bovine animals and regarding the labelling of beef and beef products and Commission Regulation (EC) 1141/97 laying down detailed rules regarding labelling. A breach of article 12.1 of the Regulation 820/97 is an offence against the Food Safety Act 1990. Declared offences are also failure to have in place a proper identification system and failure to comply with a notice to remove mislabelled beef from sale. Some other omissions are declared offences. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is the competent authority for purposes of both Regulations. Each food authority shall enforce and execute the present Regulations in its area. (6 sections)
