Abstract
The Act consists of 48 sections and 6 Schedules. The sections are divided into 4 Parts: The Deer Commission for Scotland (I); Conservation, control and sustainable management of deer (II); Offences in relation to deer (III); Enforcement, licensing of venison dealing and miscellaneous provisions (IV).
A Deer Commission is established under section 1. The Commission shall: (a) in accordance with the provisions of the Act, further conservation, control and sustainable management of deer in Scotland, and keep under review all matters, including their welfare, relating to deer, and (b) exercise such other functions as are conferred on them by or under this Act or any other enactment. Part II contains provisions respecting close seasons for the hunting of deer, exceptions granted to landowners in certain circumstances, agreements between landowners and the Commission on the killing of deer, control schemes to be made by the commission when no agreement exists or is not carried out, etc.
