Abstract
These Regulations are made in order to address deficiencies in EU-derived domestic legislation regarding environmental impact assessments in the context of land drainage improvement works, forestry, water resources, agriculture and marine works. The need for such amendments arises from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union in accordance with the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018. Reference to Community legislation in the amended instruments shall now be "retained EU law". The amendments refer to environmental objectives set out in the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017. EU environmental assessment now means an assessment of the effect of anything on the environment carried out under retained EU law other than any law of any part of the United Kingdom that implemented the Directive.
