Abstract
These Regulations provide for measures for the prevention and mitigation of floods in England and Wales.
The Regulations impose duties on the Environment Agency and local authorities to prepare preliminary assessment reports about past floods in each river basin district, and the possible harmful consequences of future floods and, following assessment, to identify areas which are at significant risk of flooding. Assessment and identification shall be reviewed at least every six years. For each area, flood risk maps, flood hazard maps and flood risk management plan shall be prepared. The Regulations further concern duties of authorities and exceptions to these duties, collaboration between authorities and river basins bordering Scotland.
