Abstract
These Regulations contain measures for the protection of public health in relation to imported food, and in particular provide for the control of certain types of food imported into Great Britain which are not in free circulation within the European Community. They replace general provisions of the Imported Food regulations of 1984. The Regulations apply to all imported food other than exempt products of animal origin (Reg. 2). Provisions of Regulation 4 prohibit the importation of food which fails to comply with food safety requirements. Imported food may be examined by an authorized officer of an enforcing authority. Regulation 7 provides for notification procedures for the allowing of re-export of food which appears to fail to comply with Regulation 4 or for allowing importation for other purposes than human consumption.
