Abstract
These Regulations amend the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 which makes provision with respect to the control on the handling of radioactive substances and the disposal of radioactive waste. The principal objective is to further adjust the provisions of the Act to Council Directive 96/29/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for the protection of the health of workers and the general public against the dangers arising from ionizing radiation.
New definitions of substances and articles which are classified as “radioactive material” or “radioactive waste” are given and Schedule 1A (Tables of NORM industrial activities, radionuclides and summation rules) is renewed.
