Sea Fish (Prohibited Methods of Fishing) (Firth of Clyde) Order 2017 (S.S.I. No. 450 of 2017).
Type of law
Regulation
Abstract
This Order prohibits for 2018 and 2019, subject to certain exceptions and in specified periods, all methods of fishing within certain areas of the Firth of Clyde for purposes of protection of juveniles of marine organisms as set out in Article 46 of Council Regulation (EC) No. 850/98. The Order applies only to British fishing boats. The prohibition does not apply to fishing boats that fish within the closed areas exclusively with scallop dredges, creels and (in area 1) trawls used for fishing for Norway lobsters but the South Arran Marine Conservation Order 2015 imposes separate restrictions on fishing activities within part of the area described. The Order gives British sea-fishery officers powers to enforce the Order and defines an offence under section 5(1) of the Sea Fish (Conservation) Act 1967.
