Abstract
These Regulations enforce Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. The Regulations provide that the Secretary of State is the competent authority for the purposes of the Community Regulation and deal with approvals, authorizations, licences and registrations, occupier’s duties, suspension, amendment and revocations of approvals, etc., and an appeals procedure. The Schedules to the Regulations deal, among other things with: (a) monitoring for the disease. (b) control and eradication of the disease in bovine animals; (c) control and eradication of the disease in sheep and goats; (d) feedingstuffs and specified risk material; and (e)dispatch of live bovine animals and products derived from them to other member States and to third countries.
