Abstract
This Order prescribes rules for the protection of animals during transportation by various means. It makes provision in Wales for the administration and enforcement of Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations and of Council Regulation 1255/97 concerning Community criteria for staging points. The Regulations designate the competent authority for purposes of Community legislation, provide for inspection and define offences.

Made under the Animal Health Act.The following are revoked in so far as they have effect in Wales: (a) the Transit of Animals (Road and Rail) Order 1975; (b) the Export of Animals (Protection) Order 1981; (c) the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 1997; and (d) the Welfare of Animals (Staging Points) Order 1998.
