Abstract
This Regulation sets forth provisions governing the transport of live vertebrate animals within the Community and also regulates specific official checks to be carried out on consignments entering or leaving the customs territory of the European Community. It establishes transport conditions to be fulfilled in order to ensure the welfare of animals and avoid any undue suffering to them. The Regulation lays down detailed rules concerning documentation, authorizations for transporters and certificates of approval of means of transport. Articles 34, 35 and 36 lay down amendments to Directive 64/432/EEC, Directive 93/119/EC and Regulation (EC) No. 1255/97 respectively. Annex I sets forth detailed technical rules concerning: fitness for transport; requirements of means of transport; water and feeding interval, journey times and resting periods.
