Abstract
These Regulations implement in Scotland Community legislation which reflects the obligations contained in the European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept for Farming Purposes. The Regulations provide for the conditions under which all farmed animals must be kept and for specific additional conditions applying to the following farmed animals: laying hens in certain circumstances; conventionally-reared meat chickens; calves; cattle; pigs; and rabbits. The Regulations further impose obligations on persons responsible for farmed animals to be acquainted with and have access to codes of practice and create offences.
