Standards Act CAP. 310 (No. 6 of 1989).

This Act lays down provisions on the establishment and functions of the Grenada Bureau of Standards; declaration and publication of standards; voluntary and compulsory standards; testing of goods for compliance with compulsory standard; prohibition of sale or export of rejected goods; examination of imported goods; appointment and powers of inspectors; and offences.
This Act also provides for the establishment of the Standards Council for the general administration of the affairs of the Bureau. The Council shall comprise of sixteen persons, including one to be nominated by the the Commodities Group consisting of the Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association, the Grenada Banana Co-operative Society, and the Grenada Cocoa Association.
A standard may be voluntary or compulsory, and a standard may, on the recommendation of the Bureau, be declared by Order of the Minister to be a compulsory standard if it is intended primarily (i) to protect against danger to health or safety; (ii) to prevent fraud or deception arising from misleading advertising or labelling; (iii) to ensure quality in goods produced for export; (iv) to require adequate information to be given to the consumer or user; or (v) to ensure quality in a case where the choice of sources of supply is restricted.
